Dougal Stott has dedicated over 20 years to Māori education, youth development, and entrepreneurship. As former General Manager of Dev Academy Aotearoa, he championed the integration of te ao Māori into tech education, overseeing the training of more than 1,000 junior developers, including 150–200 Māori. Under his leadership, Dev Academy launched innovative, open-source programmes and national tech qualifications, collaborated with iwi on co-designed regional delivery models, and built a learning culture grounded in manaakitanga, resilience, and whānau support.
Dougal’s leadership has advanced a vision of a Māori-led, culturally aligned tech ecosystem—where rangatahi see themselves in tech, contribute to meaningful solutions, and thrive as innovators. Dev Academy’s model provides a pathway not just into jobs, but into empowered futures shaped by Māori values.
Dougall was working with Dev Academy at the time of this interview and has since moved onto other mahi.
