Innovating Together: MEA & FactR Partner for Indigenous Tech Empowerment

Photo and Story by Kaye-Maree Dunn

MEA is excited to announce a new partnership with FactR, a Canada-based organisation dedicated to innovative technology and data-driven solutions. This collaboration was initiated following the recent Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC) Delegation which took place in Auckland, late August last year, with support from the Consulate and Trade Office of Canada.

This partnership is built on a shared commitment to empowering Māori communities through advanced AI, machine learning, and Indigenous data sovereignty. By combining MEA’s deep expertise in Māori and community development with FactR’s technological capabilities, we aim to:

  • Enhance digital literacy and inclusion
  • Promote Indigenous data sovereignty
  • Support iwi and Māori organisations in sustainable development and resource management

Together, MEA and FactR will co-design initiatives that center Indigenous values, ensuring that technology serves not only as a tool but as a vehicle for self-determination and growth.

We look forward to the opportunities this partnership will bring for whānau, hapū, and iwi across Aotearoa. To learn more or get involved, reach out to us at kaiwhakahaere@mea.nz.
